January 12, 2024 (Vancouver, BC) – Just in time for their cross-Canada tour, beloved Vancouver pop-rockers Fake Shark unleash their eagerly awaited full length album Afterglow, available today via Light Organ Records. Listen HERE.
“Afterglow is a record about surviving a time and a situation where a lot of people I care about didn’t,” explains lead vocalist Kevvy. “It’s about hopefully coming out of the other end as a stronger and smarter person. It started in a way we’ve never started a record before.”
The album features the chart-topping single “Exactly What I Thought You Were,” which claimed the #1 spot on the Breaking Alt Chart. Spanning 13 tracks, it includes fan favorites such as the Top 30 radio hit “Save Me” and the infectious anti-summer anthem “Bummer Summer.” Fans will get to dive deeper into Fake Shark’s newest chapter with a handful of brand new original tracks such as focus feature “Kinda Like It” featuring The OBGMs.
Reflecting on the creative process, Kevvy shares: “Usually, I will just write on my own throughout the year, and we would get together as a band in a studio with an engineer to lay down bed tracks. This time, we decided to rent a mansion on the water, hire an amazing engineer named Karl Dicaire, and set up a recording room in this library, and also show up with no ideas. Each day we’d get up, have a coffee, and Alex would get on the drums, me on bass, and we’d work out a structure for a song, just instrumentally, and then everyone would join in with ideas, I’d write lyrics while they were tracking, and you’d have a finished song by the end of the day! It was so inspired.”
With over 4 million streams to their name and 2 million views on YouTube, it’s easy to see why Fake Shark have been quote as “one of Canada’s best bands,” (Outland Culture). Their music has appeared on numerous Spotify playlists including New Music Friday Canada, Ready to Rock, Rock Favourites, Indie All Stars, Rock Your Block, Fresh Finds, It’s a Bop, All New Rock, while also being setting the vibe for various TV shows and commercials with international sync deals including Hockey Night in Canada on Sportsnet, an Apple commercial, Netflix’s Pretty Little Things, CBS Love Island, MTV Catfish, Showtime’s Dice, Degrassi, See No Evil, and Vendetta.
